The EU Lifelong Learning Program’s Finnish office CIMO (Centre for International Mobility) has given a grant to Turku City Library to arrange a Grundtvig workshop titled Creative Literacy. The workshop was held in conjunction with the Turku Women’s Centre. The aims of the workshop were to inspire international cooperation, develop interactive processes and to assist participants in the development of professional skills. The participants have been chosen based on personal applications. The workshop was in Turku in early June 2014.
SUMMARY OF CREATIVE LITERACY - workshop
At the center: CREATIVE AND OPEN ATTITUDE, OWN INSPIRATION
The workshop was designed based on report of EU High Level Group of Experts,September 2012.
"We need to realise that reading and writing are much more than a technique or a skill. Literacy is about people’s self-esteem and ability to function and flourish in society as private individuals, active citizens, employees, or parents. Our societies need to face this hidden crisis and all need to act, and act together, to boost literacy levels and to reduce illiteracy."
In the beginning of the workshop there was no presentation of the participants, no organization, no background information to not create any prior assumptions. People were taken as individuals and they represented themselves. The participants were selected in such a way that the group was as versatile as possible (country, age, gender, work).
In pre tasks (personal collage) there was given the opportunity in a creative way to tell about your self.
1. Important part of working were the preliminary tasks.
The preliminary tasks had many purposes:
2. On the workshop days in Turku and Raisio we tried to develop and encourage participant´s positive attitudes towards creativity. To discover the fact that there are possibilities to find suitable forms to support learning literacy which are fresh and eye-catching to each group and individuals
INFORMATIONAL PART:
INTRODUCTIONS OF THE INSTRUMENTS TO CREATE CREATIVE CLIMATE
TRAINING OF METHODS
1. reading support methods
2. Working methods based on different art forms
3. Technical skills
